I don't believe that, because it's simply not, what the text specifies. Nowhere is stated, that the single cube on another delayed (or mixed or end-of-game) activity is not additional but substitutive, like you say. Where do you derive that from?I nearly never ask, WHY something is in the rules, but restrict myself on the questions, HOW something is (and that's already nearly a full time job with some rules). Nevertheless, this time, should you be right, I would wonder, why someone should ever place a cube on this activity, if he later effectively "looses" another cube instead? This makes no sense to me.
Last but not least, what do you mean with "big cubes"? You don't mean the slightly bigger cubes, that came with the expansion, which have only the meaning to be worth three smaller cubes?
