Unless the designer says otherwise, I don't see why you wouldn't follow the written text of the rules unless you want to introduce ambiguity into your games (which you apparently do). The rules say "more than 30 deniers." The text here leaves no room for ambiguity, whereas the card does. Why would you not choose the unambiguous ruling?


Uhm... because it isn't unambiguous? Why should be the text more relevant, than the symbols? And if you doubt the meaning of the symbols: in 99% of all board games the term "n+" means "n or more" and not "more than n". And even the game itself uses this meaning, if you look for example on the back of the package, which says "12+" and means for players with age 12 and up.

But apart from that I have to admit: "following the written rules" is basically a good idea. I hear it the first time here, me excepted.
